91Â鶹¾«Æ·Ã¢Â€Â™s Festival of Maths

Last week found MHS buzzing with numbers, logic, and laughter as students across year groups took part in our inaugral Festival of Maths - a celebration of curiosity, creativity, and the joy of problem-solving.

The festivities began with a whole-school Maths Treasure Hunt. Students were challenged to complete a crossword puzzle, with clues leading to the surnames of influential mathematicians featured in our Maths Big Picture curriculum. These names were cleverly hidden around the school, turning corridors and classrooms into a giant puzzle board. Copies of the crossword were distributed to all tutors, and the hunt sparked a wave of excitement and collaboration across year groups.

The main event took place towards the end of the week when the gym was transformed into a lively hub of mathematical fun, with students participating in a series of maths-inspired games and challenges. With the support of our brilliant Year 12 volunteers, students tackled everything from logic puzzles to estimation games - each activity designed to stretch their thinking while keeping the atmosphere light and engaging.

The highlight for many? The chance to pie a teacher in the face - a reward for participation and enthusiasm that added a hilarious twist to the end of each session!

The Festival of Maths is a celebration of how maths connects to our everyday lives and how it can be both challenging and fun. A huge thank you to all the staff and students who made this week such a success, especially our Year 12 helpers and the teachers brave enough to take a pie for the team!
